Yes, this is a Christian interpretation....

Before I came to know the wonderous glory of our God (Yahweh) and his son Jesus Christ (Yahshua), I would have seen this book as narrow minded and harsh. But each time God makes his presence known to me I am one step closer to understanding the glory that awaits those who are brave enough to be loyal Him and No Other. This book is so loving in its careful interpretation of biblical passages relating specifically to our personal relationship with God and Christ. I truly feel that Mr Stanley was divinely touched in its creation. For anyone who desires the "TRUE" path I HIGHLY recommend this book! Blessings to all. Thank you Charles for your hard work and good ear!

Chetan Bhagat is the author of seven blockbuster books. Great story & fun read

I picked up this book while in India and quickly realized that I couldn't put it down. It is the story of three friends who are at IIT Delhi...who are all below average (five point something on a 10-pt GPA scale). They quickly bond after getting hazed (called ragging) and embark on a series of adventures involving life around Delhi, girls, and how to beat the IIT system before it beats them. A great read even if you didn't go to IIT Delhi!

Certified and approved - Authentic IIT

My first reservation when I picked up this book was whether the story and characters would be true to life on an IIT campus. My second reservation (having read a random page from the book) was whether I would be able to remain patient through the casual and colloquial writing style. The book well exceeded my expectations on both fronts. The characterization and writing style turned out to be strengths of the book.

What happens when you put together hundreds of completely different people who only have one thing in common - they have all mindlessly and goallessly topped their way through school to now live together away from their controlled environment for the first time. The sudden realization of mediocrity and the sudden freedom to choose how to live ones life brings out the best and worst in people. Reminiscing about life at IIT is most often about those stories about the bests and worsts of those people. This is one such story.

It is hard to guess if non-IITians would enjoy this book. Though, I can certainly say that all IIT undergrads who lived on campus would find it a thoroughly enjoyable read. The book is a shockingly honest narrative written by a guy with a unique sense of humor that I have come to associate with fellow IITians - cynical, crass, insensitive, asocial, lateral, imaginative, visual. Quick read. Funny plot. Very nostalgic. Can't wait to see the movie!

RELAX - Its all in fun!

I am a little surprised by the harsh reviews that some people are giving this book. Granted its not exactly a masterpiece but I dont think that was ever the author's intent (if I may say so myself). Its meant to be taken lightly, a few laughs and a tickle here and there is all it warrants. I think its a fun ride and anyone who has ever been to college in India will somewhere identify with it. As far as it being on top of the bestsellers in India, well, mediocrity has never been deprived of the top shelf, be it books, movies, cricket or politics. Enjoy the book!

It's ok but...

As a huge fan of Jane Eyre I was excited when I found a book telling the same story but from Rochester's point of view. Now that I read it I have to say that even though it was entertaining at times, I felt dissapointed. The author had the chance to get in this man's head and ended up with a Rochester that was insecure, needy and a drunk. I felt like telling him to quit complaining and be assertive man! This Edward Rochester is nothing like Bronte's Rochester.
Some of the language did not sound from the era and was repetetive. When he talks with his friend Arthur they sound like two teenage girls. Also, I am not a prude but some of the things Rochester and Jane did were frankly stuff from pornos and I don't think that Jane would do any of that.
Honestly I read it all because I wanted to see how it ended but then I find out that the story does not end with this book, there are two more! A trilogy! When it all could be done with just one book. Jane Eyre fans beware!

WTF! Has the author ever read Jane Eyre?

Really irritating book. I think the issue with this writer is she does not understand the time of the original book. Jane Eyre resisted Rochester because she valued herself. If she had succumbed she would have been ostracized, unemployable, and her life would have been ruined. Granted her life wasn't that great to begin with, but at least she had dignity and integrity. Also there is a strong moral sense of right and wrong, based on biblical beliefs. And that's what creates the dilema. Jane is passionate, wants to love and be loved, but she respects herself and respects God, and she does the hardest thing in her life by leaving Rochester. That's what makes Jane Eyre Great. It's a great romance, but ultimately it is a moral tale about living with integrity and doing the right thing. Look at Rochester , he succumbed again and again to his desires, and look at what a misreable wretch he is. UGH! This book is like taking the Mona Lisa and giving her a hot pink tube top. Like taking the venus de milo adding pasties and attaching a stripper pole.

The characters are named Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester but that's about all the similarities you'll find to Bronte's classic. The heroine is more of a Celine Varens than a Jane Eyre. Mr Rochester drinks too much and every day is a pity party. The book does offer more humor than the original but it veers too far off the beaten path and the writing is not strong enough to be its own stand-alone story. This book is actually part 1 of 3 and it ends on the morning of Jane & Rochester's wedding. Book 2 is called "Consummation" which leaves no doubt that the author will continue with more of the 'Skinemax' scenes that peppered the first book. Reading this could make you laugh but if I were Charlotte Bronte I'd be mad!
